Monmouthshire Labour

Monmouthshire Labour brings together people from Chepstow to Abergavenny who share a commitment to a fairer society and a stronger, more inclusive county.

Our members live and work in towns, villages and rural communities across Monmouthshire – and play an active role in shaping the future of our area.

Labour leads Monmouthshire County Council, alongside a number of our town councils. We also elected Monmouthshire’s first woman MP, Catherine Fookes.

How we get together

Monmouthshire Labour is organised through our Constituency Labour Party (CLP) and four local branches.

We meet as a CLP every two months. These meetings are open to all members, who are welcome to attend, take part in discussions and raise issues. Voting is carried out by delegates.

CLP meetings are a chance to hear directly from our elected representatives, including our MP Catherine Fookes and the Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, Mary-Anne Brocklesby.

Meetings in May, July and September are held in person, with winter meetings taking place online. All members are very welcome – we look forward to meeting you.

Branch meetings take place locally and are a great way to connect with councillors and members in your area. They offer a space to share ideas, discuss local issues and get involved in community activity.

Most branches meet every 1-2 months, usually in person, with meetings lasting around 1-2 hours.

We also hold constituency-wide social events twice a year, in August and December – an opportunity to celebrate successes, meet new people and support our campaigning work.

How we campaign

Campaigning is at the heart of what we do.

We regularly organise door knocking sessions and leaflet deliveries across the constituency. During election periods, activity increases, with sessions taking place several times a week.

You can find upcoming sessions via Labour Events (add link).

We also run phone banks, where you can join an online session and speak directly to voters using a secure system. Full support is provided, making it an easy and effective way to get involved from home.

How we fund our local campaigns

Our work is supported by local fundraising, including our 100 Club.

The 100 Club is a monthly prize draw, with a minimum contribution of £5 per month. Members have the chance to win cash prizes, while helping fund our campaigns locally.

All money raised stays within Monmouthshire.

You do not need to be a Labour Party member to join.
